Volunteer Work Day at Clovis Botanical Garden
Intermountain Nursery is proud to continue our partnership with the Clovis Botanical Garden through the stewardship of our California Native Plot, a demonstration garden dedicated to showcasing native species adapted to Central Valley climate, soils, and ecological conditions. This volunteer day invites members of both communities to join us for a morning of habitat care, education, and preparation for the spring planting season.

When: Thursday, January 15th • 9 a.m. — 12 p.m.
Where: 945 N Clovis Ave Clovis, CA 93611 (between Alluvial & Nees)
Why: The California Native Plot at CBG is designed to reflect what a well-planned, climate-adapted native landscape looks like in the heart of the valley, demonstrating drought-appropriate irrigation strategies, proper mulching, spacing, and long-term cultivation, examples of foothill and valley native species thriving under managed care. We will be supporting the garden through plant selection, restoration planning, maintenance, and educational programming. This winter workday will set the foundation for improvements into early spring.
Who Should Join:
• Anyone interested in California native plants, garden care, or ecological restoration
• Intermountain volunteers and community members looking to participate off-site
• Students seeking community service or environmental project hours
• Local gardeners wanting to learn proper irrigation, mulching, and maintenance techniques
• Folks who simply want to spend a morning outside doing meaningful, visible work

What to Bring:
• Sturdy shoes or boots
• Work gloves
• Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, even in winter)
• Refillable water bottle
• Hand pruners (if you have them)
• A small kneeling pad (optional)
• Brunch and/or snacks for the break
All other tools and materials will be provided.
Goals Include:
• Weed removal and bed clean-up, clearing annual grasses and early winter weeds so the garden can be tended.
• Pathway and edge definition, re-establishing clean lines along pathways and bed edges.
• Light pruning and grooming, cutting back overgrowth, shaping mature plants, opening up visibility for visitors.
• Exposing irrigation lines, carefully uncovering drip to assess the system.
This is hands-on work but nothing too strenuous. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome and no gardening experience is required.
We’ll pause mid-morning for a breakfast break (bring your own) with complimentary coffee and water provided.
