Field Records: Richard Swift, The Hex

A Monthly Listening Event at Intermountain Nursery
Every Fourth Sunday · 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Prather, California

Join us each month (as the weather permits) for a slow, intentional afternoon of music, plants, food, and community. A curated listening experience with full albums unfolding on a hi-fi sound system, surrounded by walnut trees, oaks, gardens, and creekside air.

We’re excited to welcome our first guest selector Brian Bakalian (The Stone Foxes, Sun Umbra) in January. We also welcome back Loretzeria Pizza our resident vendor serving up pies and RMS Radio for support with sound.

What to Expect:

  • Full-length albums presented in their entirety with short context intros

  • Rotating guest DJs and collectors curating each session

  • A quiet, family-friendly space for slowing down and relaxing

  • Locally made food and drinks served among the gardens

Free and open to all. Bring a blanket, a friend, and enjoy.

January 25th feature selected and curated by Brian Bakalian:

The Hex

When “The Hex” was announced in May of 2018, we didn’t know it would be Swift’s last dance. Passing away just a couple months later at the age of 41, he left us his masterpiece swan song, The Hex.

The Hex is a deep dive into Swift’s psyche. As honest as can be. Containing some of his most heart wrenching vocal performances, his processing of the deaths of his sister and mother, and dealing with his own bouts of addiction that ultimately drew the final match.

An unsung hero for many, a hidden gem in the vast world of musical creation, Swift was in a world and league of his own. His sound was undeniably his and his songs were as much for us as they were for him.

He helped many artists bring their musical ideas to fruition as a producer, some to mass success, while his own musical output was often overlooked. For those who tapped into his world know his genius well.
