Volunteer Work Day at FINS

Stewardship and restoration of the San Joaquin River riparian edge. Help improve the native trail corridor and native gardens adjacent to the San Joaquin Hatchery. This is a critical public access space along the San Joaquin River. This site combines interpretive trails, picnic areas, California native plant displays, and riverfront habitat next to a working hatchery that produces trout and salmon and is open to the public.

The health of the San Joaquin River corridor is essential to our native biodiversity. This ongoing restoration supports resilient plant communities, enhances public trails, and reinforces stewardship of a river that has been under appreciated.

The garden will support public learning and stewardship, while developing as a site for observing how native plants respond to local conditions over time. Members are warmly invited to join in this ongoing work and to contribute their presence, observations, and knowledge as the space continues to take shape.

Thanks to Victoria Knight (CDFW) and the CCAC

Address: FINS 17372 Brook Trout Drive, Friant, CA 93626

Help Us Document

Volunteers are encouraged to use the iNaturalist app to help document plants, insects, and other life observed during stewardship days. Our restoration and garden areas are part of an ongoing iNaturalist project, contributing to long-term observation of biodiversity and seasonal change.

Over time, portions of the garden may be used to observe how native species respond to local conditions, helping long-term understanding of our local flora.

You are welcome to come simply to help, to learn, or to spend time working with the land. No prior experience is necessary.
